With the official prize list just released, the pair placed first in the only three divisions in which they were eligible. Both from Modesto, Wiggins averages 209, and Chase finished the year with a 216.
On the Main prize list, their combined handicapped score of 2,153 was high to earn them the $1,500 first-place prize. Jonathan Ng and John Yee, both from San Francisco, combined for a 2,118 to finish second for $750. Low score to cash was 1,956.
The Wiggins-Chase team topped the Scratch division with a 2,027 total. The win added $250 to their total winnings.
Locals Bill Hamilton and Freddy Irvin partnered to take second at 1,991 and shared the $180 prize. Low scratch score to cash was 1,921.
In the Century Doubles division, the Wiggins-Chase main score of 2,153 was also high enough to top the list for a $200 take. To qualify for the Century Doubles division, the pair of bowlers had to have a combined age of 100 or more.
Wiggins also took second in the division when he teamed with Modesto's Ron Gilbert to shoot a 2,040 score. The second-place finish was worth $150, with low in the money at 1,992.
Oakland's Jean Ellis and partner Shelby Thomas from Hayward won the Mixed division for a take-home of $200. The duo scored a 1,917 set. Gina Moura and Lee Patterson, both from Antioch, recorded a close second place at 1,912. The pair earned $150 for the runner-up position.
Locals Tracy Marshall and Debi Koop trounced the Women's division, rolling a 1,989 for the $150 win. At a distance second, Modesto's Randi Blomdahl and Sharon Aronson earned $100 for their 1,683 score.
Mike Chase included a 300 game in his top scores, and earned the High Game lead for men in the tournament, paying $100. Yosemite proprietor Jim Gordin registered a 299 game for the second spot, which was worth $80.
Pamela Schaal topped the High Game list for women, shooting a 289 game and making $100 for her effort. Schaal, originally from Modesto, now lives in San Francisco. Sharon Aronson's 247 game finished second for $50.
FOR THOSE WAITING FOR A CHECK from the 58th annual Peach Tournament at McHenry, the prize list is being held pending an appeal time limit from the USBC. Checks and official prize list will be issued approximately Sept. 10, barring any further delays.
In the Yosemite Senior No-tap Tournament, Rod Hirtzel topped the men's list with his 898 set. Jerry Bradley ended up in second, posting an 889 series. Both bowlers included a no-tap 300 in their scoring. Bruce Webb finished third with his 866.
On the women's side, Glenda Olesen topped the field, rolling an 852. Ellen Burton filled the second slot after recording an 810. In third at 802 was Elaine Van Holland.
THIS FRIDAY, THE SUMMER'S END Tournament is rolling at McHenry. Check in is at 12:30 p.m., with competition starting at 1. The first game will be an 8-pin no-tap, then 9-pin no-tap. The last game will be regular scoring.
It's good to see Wayne Garber, manager of Yosemite Lanes, back at work, and soon, back to bowling. Garber had been sidelined after a fall earlier this summer.
With two surgeries behind him on both of his knees, we wish him a continued and full recovery.
