BAY AREA BOY DROWNS IN RIVER: A Vallejo teenager drowned Sunday evening in the San Joaquin River near Newman. The Stanislaus County coroner's office identified Damonte Byrd, 14, as the victim. He was pulled from the river about 6:25 p.m. near 2600 River Road. The Sheriff's Department is investigating.
GIRL INJURED AT WOODWARD RESERVOIR: A possible inner tube accident at Woodward Reservoir north of Oakdale injured a young girl Monday afternoon. She was taken by helicopter to the University of California at Davis Medical Center in Sacramento; her status was unknown. Emergency officials said they received a call at 1:19 p.m. for a girl 7 to 8 years old who wasn't breathing. She was in a boat in the middle of the lake. Authorities later were updated that the girl was breathing, said Stanislaus County Sheriff's Sgt. Frank Fenn. He said he did not have the girl's name or hometown.
